Women Of Color: Solo Exhibition

May 04, 2018

Struck Contemporary is pleased to showcase Toronto portrait painter, Benny Bing for his fifth solo show.

Featuring his distinct colour palette in a series of large scale portraits, Benny presents a bold collection that began with his ‘Adelani’ head-wrap series, expanding into a larger Afro-centric collection highlighting female empowerment and natural beauty.

In this new collection ‘Women of Colour’, Benny brings forth the concept of ‘colour’ taking its definition and symbolic range to connect his painted subjects to a diverse audience. In a time increasingly focused on political correctness, these pieces allow us to celebrate and express cultural individuality through universal attitudes and aesthetic appeal.

While identifying culturally, he became enamoured with the visual impact of each pattern and a textiles’ ability to enhance and reflect the wearer; inspiring him to present a series focusing on inner strength, self identity and the confidence that yields to an organic and true essence of beauty."
