The Series

Rose In The Dark turns toward the tension between visibility and interiority — what is revealed, what remains protected, and what continues to emerge.

Created in 2023, the body of work continues Bing's exploration of portraiture while moving toward a more psychologically charged relationship between figure, colour and surrounding space.

The portraits resist complete explanation. Instead, the subjects remain self-contained — present before the viewer while retaining an interior world that the painting does not attempt to fully disclose.

Rose In The Dark

A portrait can make someone visible without making everything about them available.

Across the series, presence and privacy exist together. The figure is seen clearly, yet something remains beyond the viewer's reach.

Visual Language

The series moves between portraiture, restraint and psychological space.

01

Presence

The figure remains the central force of the composition — direct, self-possessed and unwilling to disappear into the surrounding field.

02

Interiority

The portraits acknowledge an interior life without attempting to explain or narrate everything contained within it.

03

Colour

Colour functions as more than background, creating an emotional and spatial field around each subject.

04

Restraint

What is withheld becomes as important as what is shown, allowing each portrait to remain open rather than fully resolved.

Rose In The Dark

What emerges from darkness does not arrive diminished. It arrives carrying its own light.
